I am surprised they are legal and now 14 year olds are allowed into this prison setting. But that is only based on my experience with gyms and some date I hope one day I find a good one.
Why would you pay to run inside a dark room with the smell of fat guy sweat when you can run in some woodland or along the beach?

If the weather isn't great out there just go for it! You will burn more, also be brave go in a t-shirt, you will warm up in 5 minuets (unless you have a light jacket designed for it of course).
Running on grass will improve your leg muscles as the ground is uneven you will hit different leg muscles you might not normally use.
Running outside is harder not just because of the weather, but due to the freaking cold air hitting your lungs. But keep it up for a week though and it no longer effects you.
Even get yourself a work out DVD there are loads to choose from and require no equipment most of the time. A good one is Beach Body Insanity. I didn't specifically say buy a DVD, I said get........yo ho ho a pirates life for me (if you see what I just did there then you just got yourself a new work out dvd lol!)

The only core pieces of equipment that you need are:
- Dumbbell or a good Kettle-bell - If you get a Kettle-bell go for a 16KG one as will never have to upgrade this and make sure its a competition model as the other kind will just smack your wrist every time.
- Chip up bar - You can get ones that don't damage your door/wall. (Need this still myself)
- Gym Ball - Cheap as hell but seen as "girly" but its very useful for creating imbalance when you work out and will hit other muscles while using it. (Need this as well)
- Correct Running shoes - I would say any pair will do but I have been told that if you go to a place that do a running test and suggests the correct trainers for you then you get noticeable increase in your running.
For different workout using this equipment go onto MensFitness UKs website and sign up. Good websites to get equipment from are (in no order).

Hey Steeley! I didn't know you were trying to gain! I'm no expert but after living with a hard gainer for years, a back catalogue to mens health, listening to all his mates and checking the protein content of everything that goes in to the weekly shop (yawn!) I have some tips that maybe helpful!
ReplyDeleteTo increase your protein intake add liquid egg whites to your shakes and milk to the one before bed. Two chicks is the one that is stocked in the supermarket.
Remember to increase your calorie and protein intake as you gain to maintain your muscle mass. Your metabolism will burn more effectively so you will need to compensate otherwise your body will use fuel via your newly gained muscle!
Know how much protein/fat and carbs your need for your mass and plan your meals accordingly. It's more than just shakes good sources for in the go are nuts (brazil, cashew, walnut), sardines/mackerel, tuna etc
Your body will adapt quickly so mix it up! Increase sets/reps with very little rest inbetween. You will push past the 16kg on some exercises at somepoint - 16kg biscep curl easy vs 16kg squat hard!
ReplyDeleteIsometric hold as good, I see you discovered the plank - as you inc your hold to one minute try modified plank. Side plank with a weight is good for your obliques (more than bicycles).
V sits are epic but don't cross your legs! Burpees
Leg raises, full sit ups, lying down full and getting up will get your heart going without leaving the house! In a class i do we do eight burpees followed by three full push ups repeat x4 etc so come up with lots of varied combos!
ReplyDeleteIf your ever flush for cash look into TRX training - it maybe worth the investment!
Anyways i best go - your comment section keeps messing up! If you want anymore tips let me know!
It's Rachel your old house mate! Lol!
I am attempting to gain lol. Thanks for the great advice Rachel! I have read through it a few times now and been taking notes. I will be adding moves to my workout but I will mix it up which ones I do each day like you say.
DeleteIs there any website/guide to find out how much protein/fat and carbs your need for your mass?
Yeah I am increasing my weights by 1KG every 4 days or so now to push myself to gain more.
TRX training looks really good I will save some money for it :D. Hope you don't mind if I use some of your advise for a post after I have tried them out :).
Thanks again Rachel, I am always happy to have more tips just post them on here or message me them on facebook.
Yeah no probs! It's har work but as you gain it will be worth it! I forgot to tell you about a really good work out, it will kill you and I've known people to be sick after coz it's really intense but will build you up quickly with lean muscle (as long as your eating enough!!!) it's called 52 deck work out I will send you the link of fb.
ReplyDeleteI'd also recommend a grain called quinoa it's the only grain which has protein in it! Win win! That Thor fella swore by it and Hugh Hackman when working out for wolverine.
Sounds hard but never one to turn away from a challenge. Lol I will make sure I am eating enough for it. Never heard of quinoa before I will look it up.
